We need to look, but we also need to be cautious in interpreting what we 'see'. The lectionary text for this week, Luke 14:25-33, offers a challenge to a market driven approach to Christian mission. In times like these, with so much at stake in our world of blame and shame, Christians are called on to follow Jesus in all their ways all their days to a degree that puts no restriction on a mature believer's love for Christ. In the same way, we are to reckon the cost, count the cost before committing ourselves to a life of discipleship. The passage in Luke 14:15-33 is considered one of the "Hard Sayings of Jesus".
